A Brief History
Pakistan gained independence on 14 August 1947. The day commemorates the end of colonial rule and the creation of a sovereign nation envisioned by leaders such as Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
1930: Iqbal articulates the vision of a separate homeland.
1940: Lahore Resolution lays the foundation for Pakistan.
1947: Partition and Independence of Pakistan.
1956: First constitution — Pakistan becomes an Islamic Republic.
